MobileOne Singapore Selects NetSpira Networks and Lucent Technologies for New Content-Based Charging System CANNES, France (PRNewswire) - CANNES, France, Feb. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- 3GSM World Congress -- Lucent Technologies and NetSpira Networks today announced that they have provided MobileOne Ltd (M1), Singapore's leading mobile communications operator, with a content-based online charging system for GPRS and UMTS services. NetSpira also announced today that it has signed a regional teaming agreement with Lucent to extend the joint-offer created for the M1 project to other operators. Under the terms of this agreement, Lucent Technologies will distribute NetSpira's Enhanced Charging Solution (ECS) product in the Asia-Pacific region and will offer the integration expertise of Lucent Worldwide Services to deploy the online service-differentiated charging solution. The offer created for M1 incorporates NetSpira's ECS, which enables mobile data network operators to identify the type of data traffic being sent and received across a third generation (3G) network, with Lucent's MiLife(TM) SurePay(R) Solutions Suite. SurePay was already deployed in M1's network under a contract announced in July of 2003. This capability will allow M1 to use SurePay's real-time rating and charging system to introduce service-differentiated rating and charging based on a number of criteria such as the application, content type and content provider. Lucent Worldwide Services (LWS) served as the system integrator for the project. LWS deployed the solution and created a real-time charging system for prepaid subscribers by linking NetSpira ECS via CAMEL Ph3 with Lucent's SurePay(R). Patrick Scodeller, Chief Technical Officer of MobileOne, said: "Introducing service-differentiated charging is a business-critical decision for us. We spent months testing and evaluating the products from a number of different vendors and came to the conclusion that NetSpira's ECS would meet all of our requirements in the crucial and key area of differentiated content-based charging." Paul Higgs, vice president in the Asia Pacific region for Lucent Worldwide Services, said: "Content-based charging is clearly a promising business opportunity for mobile data operators. The combination of NetSpira's sophisticated and flexible software with the network integration expertise of Lucent Worldwide Services delivers a powerful offer for 3G network operators throughout Asia." NetSpira ECS sits alongside the GGSN or the PDSN nodes in wireless networks and can support both post-paid and prepaid customers. It fits in with the existing infrastructure of operators so no replacements of existing technology are needed. It has also been deployed and is in commercial service in Vodafone Spain, Telefonica Moviles Espana, Eurotel Praha, Optimus in Portugal and Virgin Mobile in the US, along with other prominent GSM/GPRS and CDMA Operators in the Americas. NetSpira's Executive Vice President, Salim A. Mawji and CEO, Jose Lopez, jointly commented: "This is the first of what we are sure will be many successes as a result of our relationship with the Lucent Worldwide Services Team. In the last few months NetSpira has announced two new customers -- Eurotel Praha in the Czech Republic and Virgin Mobile in the USA -- and now M1 marks our expansion into the Asian market. NetSpira's ECS solution continues to be the market-leading choice for mobile data operators who are actively looking for new revenue streams from content-based charging."
