 NetSpira GSN GPRS real-time advanced content rating solution installed at Portuguese mobile Operator Optimus

NetSpira Networks today announced that it has successfully completed the delivery of NetSpira GSN, its GPRS real-time advanced content rating product, at leading Portuguese mobile operator, Optimus. With the delivery of this solution, Optimus becomes the first mobile operator in Portugal to be able to rate and bill GPRS/UMTS advanced content in real-time for both pre-paid and post-paid subscribers.

The NetSpira GSN product has been installed in the Optimus network without requiring any upgrades to the existing infrastructure. SchlumbergerSema successfully completed the delivery of the system as the project integrator, developing new functionality on top of the NetSpira GSN product to turn it into a customized solution for Optimus. The solution installed performs GPRS traffic analysis, content filtering and metering to enable real-time rating of advanced data content. This real-time capability has become more critical with the increase in data services because it enables the operator to instantaneously check the pre-paid subscribers' remaining balances before allowing transactions to take place. This same functionality also allows real-time charging of GPRS/UMTS traffic for pre-paid customers when roaming. The solution is based on a flexible platform to allow the easy deployment of GPRS and UMTS value-added services.
